Click to view video Fights can appear quite viscious but I have never seen blood spilt or any actual injury. They seem mainly [only?] to occur between males. Generally the weaker curls into a ball and rides out the storm while the stronger gives it a thorough duffing. The agressor will then get tired, bored or distracted and go about his business for a bit while the victim stays rolled up waiting for the next onslaught. This will be repeated until the dominant male finally goes on his way. After a cautious interlude the victim will unroll and, seemingly none the worse for wear head off in the opposite direction to his agressor.

So I dispensed with the bin and now dump stuff in the dish where hedgehogs happily rumage about presumably looking for the bugs, beetles, worms and snails who are attracted to the waste. The dish is periodically emptied into a compost bin.
