" Jacob's death certificate the informant is J.B. Linklater of 54 Candlemaker Row a nephew [of Jacob's]. This was John Beaton Linklater who was a son of John from Peter Linklater's first family with Janet Linay.
"At the birth of his son in July 1858 he is described as a commercial traveler, so he was more that likely an employee of his uncle Jacob."

54 Candlemaker Row must have been the same property as Jacob's 'warehouse.' [Today it is surrounded by tattoo parlours!] John Beaton's mother was Ann Thomson. Although John Beaton Linklater was of a different generation, he could have witnessed Jacob's death certificate in 1858 when John Beaton Linklater would have been about 25 years old.

Jacob, the youngest of David's three brothers, was unmarried when he died intestate in Edinburgh on 27 Aug 1858, and was recorded as ÙSsole partner of J. & J. Linklater Provision Dealer Candlemaker Row Edinburgh.ÙT [While the street location of the ÙtwarehouseÙu was given thus in the Inventory, the actual property was not precisely identified.] When Jacob died intestate, his estate presumably passed in its entirety to his nearest surviving relation. In Jacob's case that was William, the oldest of the three surviving brother. Crumbs from the table may have gone to Robert, the next oldest brother. Robert had a son named Jacob, born 10th November 1840, suggesting possibly more than mere kinship. Robert and his family all emigrated to Australia.
